Pyrrhic Victory

I won an argument I had with my girlfriend about how she forgot something important to me. She said I was right, but I was a jerk too for forgetting about how the harshness of my words eroded her self-esteem.

I won an argument I had with my mother about how she should tell people they are wrong without humiliating them. She said I was right, but I was a jerk too for making her feel stupid and unappreciated.

I won an argument I had with my father about how money is not the most important thing in life. He said I was right, but I was a jerk too for undermining all the hardships he went through and sacrifices he made so that I have enough money now to say things like this.

I won an argument I had with myself about how it is more important for me to be a writer than to be a person who gets to write. I say I am right, but I am a jerk too for not acknowledging which comes first.
